Typographic Visual Definitions

Class: Typography II • Spring 2021

Objective: Create two 10"x10" compositions for each of the two assigned typographic terms. The terms should be developed into greyscale compositions before adding in color. Compositions should visually show the definition of each of the assigned terms.

Deliverables:

  • Two full-color 10"x10" compositions
  • Two greyscale 10"x10" compositions

Description: The assigned terms were optical alignment and display and text type.
The composition for optical alignment was designed to highlight the difference where optical alignment was or was not used in a short passage of text. Information was also included to explain how to use optical alignment, as well as what optical alignment is.
The composition for display and text type demonstrates the point sizes commonly used for display or text type, and provides information about when to use different sizes of type.
